MealTime – Delete Your Account

Do you even have an account?

Most people using MealTime do not. The app works entirely offline, and your recipes, categories and grocery lists are stored on your device without an account.

An account is only created if you chose to use shared grocery lists, which need a way to recognise you across devices. If you never used that feature, there is nothing to delete: uninstalling the app removes everything.

Deleting your account in the app

Open MealTime, then:

Settings → Account → Delete account

You will be asked to confirm with your password. This is deliberate: it means that even if someone gained access to your phone or a stored login token, they still could not delete your account without knowing your password.

Deletion happens immediately. It cannot be undone.

If you signed in with Google

Accounts created with "Continue with Google" do not have a password, so the confirmation step above cannot be completed yet. If this is you, email [email protected] from the address you signed in with, and your account will be deleted for you.

Requests are handled within 30 days, and normally much sooner.

What is deleted

When your account is deleted, the following is removed from MealTime's servers:

Your account itself, including your email address and display name
Shared grocery lists you created, along with every item on them
Your membership of shared lists that other people created
Shared meals and meal buddy connections
Any pending password reset codes

What is kept, and why

Your recipes stay on your device. They were never on our servers to begin with, so deleting your account does not touch them. To remove those, delete them in the app or uninstall it.

Items you added to other people's shared lists remain on those lists, because they belong to the people still using them. Your name is removed from those items, so they are no longer connected to you.

Ordinary server logs may retain a record of requests for a short period as part of normal operation and abuse prevention. These are not used to rebuild deleted accounts.

Deleting some data without deleting your account

You do not have to delete your whole account to remove things. In the app you can delete individual shared lists you own, which removes those lists and their items from the servers, and you can leave lists that other people own.
